WHY HEALTH CHECK-UPS MATTER FOR MEN

In today’s fast-paced world, establishing good health habits is vital for living a longer, healthier, and more productive life. Statistically, men are significantly less likely to attend regular health screenings than women. This reluctance can have serious consequences, according to the Men’s Health Forum, 19% of men in the UK die before their 65th birthday, with cancer and circulatory diseases being the leading causes.

There is no “right age” to begin regular health screenings; it’s never too early to take control of your health. The two key risk factors for men are simply “being male” and “getting older.” Even the healthiest individuals can develop unexpected health issues.

Health assessments can detect potential problems early, prevent chronic conditions, and help you stay on track with your health goals. At Breakspear Medical, we understand the unique health challenges men face and offer comprehensive assessments designed specifically for men’s wellbeing.

FAQS

How old should men be to consider a Well Man Check?

There is no “right age” to begin regular health screenings; it’s never too early to take control of your health. The two key risk factors for men are simply “being male” and “getting older.” Even the healthiest individuals can develop unexpected health issues.  We started this programme with the intent of helping men 50 years and older, however, any man with health concerns can book an appointment.

How long does the men's health assessment take?

The doctor’s core assessment takes approximately 1 hour. Additional specialised tests may require extra time or a separate appointment.

Do I need to prepare anything before my assessment?

For the most accurate results, we recommend fasting for 8-12 hours before your appointment for blood tests. You should continue to drink water. Please bring a list of any medications or supplements you’re currently taking. If you are completing the Stool Test, you will be given the kit at your appointment for use when you go home.

What's the difference between your Well Man Check and a regular GP check-up?

Our assessment is more comprehensive than typical GP visits, which often focus on specific symptoms or concerns. We evaluate your overall health status, assess multiple risk factors, consider environmental factors, and provide preventative recommendations tailored specifically to men’s health needs.
